Golfing in Florida

If you love golf - you will love Florida

We love to play golf in Florida. There are so many wonderful golf courses to choose from. We like to try out new courses, but also like to return to our favourite ones.

We prefer to choose courses within a 45 minute journey time of Calabay Parc and the Davenport area.

Everyone loves a bargain and we are no exception! We use a website – – this site offers last minute deals for weekend and weekday tee times in the Orlando area.

One favourite which we have returned to on many occasions is Legends on the US 27 near Clermont. It is about 30 minutes (18 Miles) North of Calabay Parc. Winding between the villas on the development, it is a good challenge for any golfer. A combination of some tough/rough, well positioned bunkers and water hazards, make it ‘fun’ for all golfers.

Kings Ridge, opposite Legends on US 27 near Clermont, is also a great place to play golf and in our opinion a hidden gem. It has two courses – the Ridge course has fifteen Par 3’s and three Par 4’s, making it a Par 57. The Kings course is a full course with a Par of 71. The greens are of a very high standard with subtle undulations and contours.

One thing we particularly like about these three courses (Legends, Kings and Ridge) is that they offer several choices of tee boxes, making them suitable for all levels of golfer. Many of the courses in Central Florida have these options, but unfortunately we have not yet had the chance to try as many as we would like. Florida is quite flat but Kings Ridge and Legends offer a little more shape and undulation than those we have played to the South of Calabay Parc.

Highlands Reserve is currently the closest golf course to Calabay Parc, being just two miles North on US 27. It is another course surrounded by villas, but the fairways are divided by the natural woodlands/pine forests. This is a full course with a Par of 72 and has a choice of three tee boxes.

Many courses have driving ranges, but the nearest to Calabay Parc is the one at Highlands Reserve.

A golf course at Stoneybrook South at Integra Meadows, which is almost opposite Calabay Parc, is currently being developed, but at present (October 2012) has no published completion date.

Diamond Back is a course South of Calabay Parc. It is located on County Road 544 East off US 27, just South of Haines City. The journey time from Calabay Parc is approximately 45 minutes. Take plenty of balls! The course is very tight and unforgiving. If you like a challenge this may be the course for you. We have not played the course in the last couple of years, but in 2009 the greens were not as fast as we have found more recently in Legends and Kings Ridge.

Willowbrook is another course we have played, but not one of our favourites. It is also on County Road 544 South of Haines City, but West bound off US 27. It is a public municipal golf course, has year round low prices and is good value for money, particularly if you have younger golfers with you. On one occasion on a humid day we were badly bitten on this course, so ensure you prepare with a good insect repellent.

Experience some of the worlds most challenging golf courses in a wonderful climate of peaceful beauty. Florida offers hundreds of golf courses so you are sure to find your dream course.

Our villa is located in the hub of the Central Florida golfing area and you will be spoilt for choice in deciding which course to play, but here are a few of the closest to us:-
